St. Leonard Foundation Funds

Established as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in 2003, the St. Leonard Foundation serves 700 senior residents, 300 employees, and manages the following funds:

Greatest Need Fund: Established as an unrestricted fund for St. Leonard’s greatest needs as determined by the St. Leonard Foundation in conjunction with St. Leonard Management.

Activities Fund: Provides for fundraisers within the Activities Department, such as: Studio Art, Mending Souls, Veteran’s Group (designated to assist the needs of war veterans), and pet therapy needs..

Alzheimer’s Fund: Provides for additional equipment, and/or special programs for all Alzheimer’s residents in Assisted Care, Health Care Center (HCC), and Day-away participants.

Benevolent Care Fund: Designated for St. Leonard assisted care and independent residents whose financial resources have been depleted. Since there are no federal or state funds to cover these costs, the Foundation makes up the difference for these residents with fundraisers and donations from residents, staff, and community members throughout the year: Major fundraisers are: Sports & More Auction, 5K Run, and the Legacy Golf Tournament.

Chapel Fund: Established in 1990, the Chapel Fund assists in the purchase of Chapel supplies, new songbooks, and special project needs.

Employee Emergency Fund (employee emergencies): Assists eligible employees who experience an emergency resulting in financial stress from an uncontrollable catastrophic event. This event may include, but is not limited to: fire, natural disaster, incapacitating illness, sudden death of a family member, or any other uncontrollable event resulting in extraordinary financial stress. Another use of the fund is to provide gifts to employees and their dependents who may need emergency gift assistance at Christmas time.

Employee Christmas Fund:
Supported by residents, family members, and others who wish to thank employees for their assistance throughout the year. Funds are disbursed through gift certificates in December of each year to eligible St. Leonard employees.

Franciscan Pilgrimage Fund : Assists with annual pilgrimage trip for Board members and management staff.

Herman’s Fund (resident emergencies): Helps residents (who may come upon an occasional financial emergency) to receive basic personal items or have the opportunity to participate in an outside resident group activity. Leaving a legacy perpetuates the cycle of selfless giving, and Herman’s Fund has been designed for a special man whose kindness will never be forgotten.

Joseph Bernardin Residence Fund: Provides for equipment, materials and special programs for the Joseph Bernardin residents on the St. Leonard campus.

Kreative Korner Fund: Designed for: 1) purchasing materials for creating hand-made products and 2) providing a portion of its earnings through special fund-raising events to the Benevolent Fund and/or other funds that may be designated by the majority of its members.

Library Fund: Supports the purchase of educational materials for any library on the St. Leonard campus.

Nursing Care Fund: Provides for equipment or special programs for residents living in St. Leonard Assisted Care. It also provides for additional equipment or special programs for Health Care Center residents.

Rex Smith Memorial Fund: Designed to provide equipment and materials to the St. Leonard TV station (Channel 17) in memory of Rex Smith, co-founder of the Sports Auction and loyal supporter of St. Leonard for over 20 years.

Special Projects Fund: Intended to be used as a short-term account, with the funds being released in a reasonable timeframe. Example: farewell gifts for employees, residents, or close associates of St. Leonard.

Staff Development Fund: Designated for caregiver support, staff scholarships, and continuing education for staff, including the Mary L. Ghory Nursing Scholarship and the St. Elizabeth’s Alumni Nursing Scholarship.

St. E’s Garden Fund: Helps with the maintenance and enhancement of the St. Elizabeth Garden, located on the St. Leonard campus near Pott Hall.

Tate House Renovation Fund: Designated for the historical renovation of the John Tate House, located on the western side of the St. Leonard campus, allowing the home to be enjoyed by future generations. Proceeds from the Tate House 5K Run will be designated for the renovation.
