As we age, the need to maintain strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness becomes even more important. The Franciscan Center provides the facilities and equipment to help you achieve your goals—all under the expert guidance of our well-qualified staff.

Fitness Class Descriptions

Asian Arts 
This is an alternative for the healthy, active senior adult to take the Asian arts to a new level; no breaking boards or free-sparring! 

Belly Dance 
This class is designed to be a great workout, while improving your strength and balance. Offering a different and interesting way to move and stay fit. Come prepared for fun and excitement! 

Circuit Training 
This program allows you to work on your strength, and your flexibility. In addition, this program focuses on movement, coordination, and reflexes. 

Exercise Strategies for Diabetes 
Diet and exercise go hand-in-hand when it comes to managing diabetes. Learn how to adapt and balance your workout routines based around your diabetes. 

Exercise to Manage Chronic Fatigue and Pain 
A gentle approach to pain management offering therapeutic movement and relaxation techniques to feel rested and refreshed. 

Fit for Life 
Come join us for a fun exercise program designed specifically for the Life Long Learner. This class includes standing exercises designed to increase mobility and strength. This class introduces light cardiovascular exercise. 

Hatha Yoga 
Referred to as The Sun & The Moon Yoga, Hatha Yoga warms and cools the body in various athletic yoga positions. Please bring an exercise mat to class. 

Hula Hoop Aerobics
Hula Hoop! Remember how much fun that was? This aerobic exercise program will be done to music from all eras. 

Kettlebells 
Kettlebells are the ultimate training tool for all-round fitness and physical development. Whether you are training with a short or sharp workout, this class will target all core areas. 

Lectio Divina 
(Latin for divine reading) Lectio Divina is a traditional Christian practice of scriptural reading, meditation and prayer intended to promote communion with God and to increase the knowledge of God’s Word. Traditionally Lectio Divina has 4 separate steps: read, meditate, pray and contemplate. First a passage of Scripture is read, then its meaning is reflected upon. This is followed by prayer and contemplation on the Word of God. 

Line Dance 
Country line dance fun! Learn 1-wall to 4-wall dances. 

No Tu Tu Ballet 
This is an easy to follow ballet class with steps and combinations that will improve your grace, coordination, and balance. 

Plyometrics 
This is a great class to supplement your training for your favorite sport. This program is for the athlete who likes to be challenged to be more agile and faster. 

Premiere Ballet 
Intermediate ballet class creating patterns of movement with basic ballet designs

Self-Defense with a Cane 
Learn progressive moves week by week with the cane that can be used defensively. Considered an exercise program as certain muscles for balance and strength are toned to successfully use the cane in various defensive forms. 

Sock Hop Jive 
Jive is a late 1930’s version of dance that is still popular today. Jive involves swing, jitterbug, and fun variations of ballroom dance. 

Summit Training 
Summit training is for the physically elite athlete who wants to play harder and move closer to the competitive edge. 

Sunrise Yoga 
Start your morning with a refreshing stretch and meditative glow. Come for meditation and power yoga. Bring your own blocks and mat, and enjoy! 

Tai Chi 
A gentle approach to physical and mental training. The practice of Tai Chi has positive benefits that include stress reduction, better focus and concentration. Often balance, coordination and flexibility are also improved. 

Tai Chi – Advanced
Take your skills to the next level in this advanced class. We’ll explore the “long forms” and Asian weaponry. 

Tai Chi – Intermediate 
Intermediate Tai Chi is a bridge from beginning Tai Chi to advanced Tai Chi. Learn the basics and move toward more advanced graceful but powerful movements using this ancient form of healing and moving meditation. 

Tappin’ with Jacqueline
 Learn to tap, soft shoe, buck and wing, and more! We’ll dance to the standards. This is a great class for developing a sense of rhythm and for strengthening and conditioning the legs. 

That’s Entertainment 
Singers, dancers & actors wanted! Join our company as we stage the popular songs of Broadway. No experience necessary. 

Weightlifting 
Plan your routine around circuit-weight training followed by gentle stretching. Our trainers will help you design a library of fitness tools using free-weights or machine-based resistant systems. 

Zumba 
Advanced Latin dance music and steps to take your aerobic program to new heights of fun and socialization! 

Zumba Gold 
Zumba Gold is an exercise/dance class that is a great aerobic workout for the senior adult. The choreography of the program is geared to improve functional balance and overall strength. Pace is step-by-step to allow for learning and great fun!

Water Class Descriptions

Aqua Joggers
Water aerobics, walking, and jogging taught to the tunes of the oldies. Great workout and great fun! This class is open to all members, residents and non-residents.

Aqua Zumba
Zumba in the water! Same great music and dance steps as Zumba with the added challenge of the water’s natural buoyancy.

Aquatic Core A
This is a water balance and strengthening class for the beginner who is just entering the water for fitness.

Aquatic Core B
Intermediate level core balance and strengthening class using aquatic tools to challenge the swimmer’s fitness and agility

Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Class
The Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program is a recreational group exercise program that is geared to participants with different ability levels. The program exercises were designed specifically for people with arthritis and related diseases. Participants improve their joint flexibility and reduce their pain and stiffness while supported by the water’s buoyancy and resistance.

Parkinson’s Flexibility Training
This class offers gentle stretching and works on the stiffness and slow response normally associated with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological issues.

Noodle Exercise
Noodles are fun water toys that can be used for gentle water fitness and can enhance balance and relaxation.

Water Aerobics
This class will get you moving to fun music and simple routines so that you get a great workout without learning complicated dance and fitness movement.

Water Aerobics: Advanced
This class is a challenging workout to fun music and advanced fitness moves. This program will strengthen your core and help you to burn those unwanted calories!

Water Kickboxing
Kick and punch your way through the water with challenging fitness routines for a fantastic workout!

Water Polo
Join our water polo team and experience a great water sport filled with scoring goals and defending against opponents!

Water Tai Chi
Perform the simpler movements of Tai Chi and let the warm water therapy pool relax you deeper into the pose.

Water Volleyball
This is a friendly game of water volleyball for fun and fitness. This program will be a great way to start a fitness program filled with core strengthening and balance.

Water Walking
This is a class just to improve your balance and strength in the water. This class is beneficial for all levels of fitness and it supports coordination and flexibility.

Water Balance Exercise
This is a water balance class that is like no other, with coordination exercises and graceful patterns to take advantage the water’s natural buoyancy
